- According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) SumDU takes the 501-600 position among world universities and 1 position among Ukrainian universities. THE branch ranking marks Sumy State University on the position of 401-500 in “Business and Economics” (2nd place among Ukrainian HEls), 601-800 in “Engineering” (1st place among Ukrainian HEls) and 801-1000 in “Physical Sciences” (2st place among Ukrainian HEls)
- According to the University Impact Rankings by Times Higher Education, Sumy State University is in the top 600-800 world universities by the societal and economic impact.
- According to the QS World University Rankings, Sumy State University enters the top group 701-750 of leading universities of the world and takes the 4th – 5th position among Ukrainian HEls
- In the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings and QS Top 50 Under 50, SumDU is among the top 150 “young” universities of the world that are “rapidly developing” and currently is the only representative of Ukraine

SumDU takes the 1st place among Ukrainian HEls according to the results of state certification of scientific (scientific and technical) activities, is included into the highest qualification group in four fields of study: “Humanities and Arts”, “Social Sciences”, “Mathematical and Natural Sciences”, “Technical Sciences” and has high rates in the field “Biology and Health”
According to the number of commercial contracts and grants, and the efficiency of use of budget funds, Sumy State University is one of the leaders among Ukrainian universities

The University is one of the leaders for the number of prize-winning places in All-Ukrainian Olympiads in educational disciplines, training areas and majors
